Single AF Valentine’s Day Styled Shoot

This post is a toast to all my fellow single gals on Valentine’s Day this year, especially my fellow newly single ladies. This is a Single AF Valentine’s Day styled shoot. As some of you know, I just left a ten-year relationship in November. I had a ring on my finger for five of those years and wedding (elopement) plans in the baby stages. The next thing I knew, that part of my life was just done. And you know what? I’m not even mad about it. I shared about it here.

This year, I collaborated with the amazing CC Monroe who co-styled this shoot with Party Shop Avenue, and honestly, could it have been more perfect? I don’t think so. More than ever, especially lately, is a very important time to self-indulge and make self-care and self-love a priority. 2020 was brutal for everyone and we all had to learn or re-learn how to take time out and time off for ourselves. It’s important to reconnect with yourself, unplug, and relax. It’s also completely ok if you do this alone. It’s actually necessary, even. Our mental health is no joke and having endured the widespread effects of a global pandemic and complete political chaos all year, we all have to learn to recalibrate ourselves and know when to turn it all off for a little while. This is especially true for anyone who also experienced anything traumatic lately such as a breakup. We’re about to hit the one year mark of the Coronavirus lockdown and Valentine’s Day is here. How do we celebrate that in current times in our current state? With it being already hard enough to date and meet new people or even see the ones we already know, how can we make this Valentine’s Day special for ourselves?

2021 is all about YOU. Make it about you. Put your priorities first. Turn your phone on Do Not Disturb. Pop that sparkling rose and draw a hot bath and just indulge while you listen to your favorite playlist. Lather on your favorite scrub and facial mask and just be at peace with your bad-ass self. Don’t forget to get yourself flowers just because – and do that often, not just on a day where it’s common to give or receive them. Eat that candy! Put whatever guilty pleasure TV or movie that makes you happy. My personal favorite is True Romance. It’s a Quentin Tarantino cult classic and perfect for Valentine’s Day if you ask me! 😉

Remind yourself that being single isn’t a punishment. Yes, it’s the end of something that wasn’t meant to be, but more importantly, the beginning of something NEW for you. A new chapter, whether you quickly let someone new in or trek through life independently. There is no rule book to life or how to navigate through something specifically. Hell, I even broke my own rules just one month out of my long term relationship. Life isn’t one-size-fits-all. Everybody’s story is different. Just be brave and do what your heart tells you to do…just be smart about it! Enjoy yourself. LOVE YOURSELF!
