Ghost hunting in one of America's most haunted cities...

New Orleans, Lousiana

favorite meal:

Beijing,
China

Of all the cities I've visited so far, and all the fancy meals I've been so fortunate to have, my most memorable and delicious meal was had in Beijing, China.

I had just landed from Los Angeles on a 13-hr flight, starving, and in search of anything within walking distance from my hotel. The language barrier is very real if you're an American and don't speak the Chinese language spoken in this region. I knew I had to find something that was obviously a restaurant from the outside, and prepared to point at something on the menu. As it started to pour rain, I happened to find this place and just walked in and got myself a table. I pointed to the fist plate noodles and cold beer I saw on the menu, both of which just tasted absolutely fantastic. Maybe it was jet lag, maybe I was just hungry, or perhaps Asia offers something unique in their noodles. Whatever it was, I still fantasize about it today!

favorite event:

Paris,
France

When I flew all the way to Paris to photograph Eagles of Death Metals' return to Paris, France in 2016, a few months after the tragic 2015 attack at the Bataclan.

I've known them for several years and some of the members are like family to us so having the opportunity to photograph this event was a very special occasion that I will treasure forever.

favorite memory:

Oaxaca,
Mexico

One of the things I really wanted to do while in Oaxaca was find a huge agave field that we could take photos in. It turns, that's not so easy to do as they're mostly all private and gated. My boyfriend Adrian speaks relatively fluent Spanish so he made friends with a cab driver who helped us drive around until we found a jimador who happily let us into a really large agave field.

At first, when they started speaking with the jimador - an older man with a machete in one hand, and....well, no other hand - I couldn't really tell what they were saying at first and I wasn't sure if this plan was about to go south, but it turned that he was so bored until we showed up and he was happy to us gringos an agave field that he had access to. Never judge a book by its cover!

favorite out-of-comfort zone moment:

Iquitos,
Peru

Although I have MANY of these, I think my top "WTF" moment so far has been when we arrived in the Peruvian rainforest to stay in a treehouse in the Amazon jungle. I joined a group of ladies on this trip at the very last minute and had almost no time to look over the itinerary and didn't realize that we'd be ACTUALLY sleeping in an ACTUAL treehouse, 50-75ft up in the canopy with all that nature. The thing about the rainforest is also that in the daytime it looks and feels calm, but once the sun goes down, the jungle COMES ALIVE! I don't have many fears, but I do have a major insect phobia so that was really having to make the best of an uncomfortable situation. From rodents to scorpions to tarantulas to countless mosquitos INSIDE our room, I will admit, the serene mornings felt like an Amazonian gift for surviving the night.

favorite "out of this world" city:

Seoul,
South
Korea

So far, it's definitely Seoul, South Korea! There are SO many things about this city that keep me coming back. In the daytime, it's quaint, bustling, and charming. Once the sun goes down and lights come on, it's transformed into something ELSE! With its "Blade Runner" vibes and extreme nightlife that puts NYC to shame, you really get two different worlds in one trip. You really can't miss a visit to this gorgeous city on your next trip to Asia.

favorite haunted city:

New Orleans,
Louisiana

For anyone looking for a fun ghost story, you'll just have to ask me about this one! If you're looking for a possible paranormal encounter, stay at Lafitte's Guest House and Gallery and ask for room 20!
