During this time of year, the poppy fields in Antelope Valley are in full bloom. For what seems like miles and miles, the hills are blanketed bright orange with poppies. Poppies as far as the eye can see! I’ve always wanted to shoot there and knew I wanted to create something magical and not just an ordinary family shoot.
Enter the Jolly Family! I have some good friends who happen to live 20 min away from the poppy fields. They know some secret back roads where there wouldn’t be anyone around, where we could basically have the area to ourselves. Their family theme happens to be “travel” and “adventure” and they even have their own hashtag #OurJollyAdventure. Their wedding was travel and adventure-themed. We used the same details from their wedding and baby shower for their infant shoot, their family shoot in the desert, and again recently for Elliot’s first-year photos here. Though the theme remains the same, all of our sessions are different. This one was more of an “Up” inspired shoot and seemed to just fit so perfectly within the super bloom. The lighting was perfect and the weather wasn’t too hot as it normally is. The soft lighting provided us with that soft yet vibrant “Up color palette” similar to what we see in the film.
